SEO Checklist for a New Website: Google Analytics, Search Console & More
Just launched a website? Follow this basic SEO checklist so Google indexes your site quickly and you can measure its performance.
A new website doesn't show up on Google automatically. A few basic steps help search engines find, understand and show your site. Here's the checklist we apply to every project.
1. Set up Google Search Console
Search Console tells Google your site exists, shows which keywords bring visitors, and warns you about pages with problems. Submit your sitemap.xml here so pages get indexed quickly.
2. Set up Google Analytics
Analytics shows how many people visit, where they come from and which pages they open most. Without this data it's hard to tell whether your website is actually helping the business.
3. A title and description for every page
Each page needs a unique title and meta description that include its main keyword, for example “car paint service Bandung”. This is what appears in Google's search results.
4. A clean heading structure
- One H1 per page describing the main topic
- H2s and H3s for sub-topics
- Alt text on every image
5. Fast and comfortable on mobile
Most visitors browse on their phones. Compress images, use a responsive design and make sure buttons are easy to tap.
6. Content that answers questions
Article pages like this one help your website rank for more keywords and build trust with potential customers.
